Bridges for Music, an international non-profit organization focused on the responsible development of electronic music, launches in South Africa with the first ever tour to the continent by global music pioneer Richie Hawtin, who will appear as its first ambassador in February 2013.
Bridges for Music is gathering international and local key players of the music industry to enhance the opportunities through music and create positive change in disadvantaged areas across the world.
The aim of Bridges for Music, and its first ambassador, Richie Hawtin, is to use music as a tool to bridge geographical and social gaps, and to provide a contact point between younger generation of DJs and internationally seasoned artists from the global circuit, raising awareness of social issues by leveraging the presence of global opinion leaders within local communities and by connecting the international media, technology and dance music brands with these new audiences.
Richie Hawtin states, “I believe music can play a crucial role in raising awareness of social issues and artists should have a responsibility to give something back. This is why I was inspired to be a part of the Bridges for Music concept from the minute it was presented to me”.
BFM Director Valentino Barrioseta concludes: “We believe that the global music industry has a big responsibility in its development in countries like South Africa, facing big socio-economic issues. That is how this idea came about, we want Bridges for Music to be a joint venture of everyone in the music industry sharing this ethos, willing to give back and leave a legacy through music. We are very proud of everyone that has already come onboard. “
